Fort Lee, New Jersey, September 18, 2009: OE Solutions Co, Ltd., a global supplier of high performance optoelectronic transceiver solutions for wireless and wireline optical communications, announced the introduction of Single-Fiber Bi-directional SFP transceivers, commonly referred to as BIDI SFP, for 80km reach applications with OC-48/STM-16 signals and for 120km reach with GbE signals
Integrating APD into BIDI SFP package has been a long standing challenge for SFP manufacturers because of limited space for APD and the required circuitry. Combining packaging expertise and BIDI SFP experience, OE Solutions’ engineering team has achieved a major milestone in packaging APD into BIDI SFP form factor. This family of BIDI SFP with APD receiver enables the support of longer reach applications for Metro-WDM market. BIDI SFP’s have been mainly used in access market but this breakthrough will enable customers to take advantage of the BIDI’s inherent single fiber solution for Metro market.
In order to meet diverse customer requirements, OE Solutions’ BIDI SFP with APD is available for both GbE and OC-48/STM-16 signals; 120km reach for GbE and 80km reach for OC-48/STM-16. Wavelengths options are available for both TDM and CWDM applications. In addition, as do most of OE Solutions’ transceivers, this new product line also satisfies industrial temperature requirement, i.e. -40 ~ 85 degC.
“We are excited with this new BIDI SFP solution which enables the use of single-fiber solution in metro applications, ” said John Kwak, Director of Business Development at OE Solutions. “Bi-directional single-fiber solutions are currently considered one of the most practical cost-effective solutions for easier fiber management and cost savings. This will pave the way for further penetration of BIDI SFP transceivers in both Access and Metro applications.”
OE Solutions will exhibit in booth #296 at the ECOC 2009, September 21-23, 2009, at the Austria Center, Vienna, Austria.
